30th Dec - Winery Tour

In the interest of being fair we are going on a wine tour just like we did else where - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Our first winery of the day was Domaine Chandon, owned by the French Moet Chandon and produce their own Ozzie sparkly stuff. It was a lovely building in fantastic rural setting and we we treated to a full glass of bubbly of our choice for breakfast - what a way to start the day. They produce 3 bubblies - a dry white which Michael and I had and was lovely, a sweeter white which Pauline had which was also very nice (we all swapped) and Mairi, daredevil she is, had the new red bubbly. I was a bit suspicious of this new fangled concoction but Mairi really liked it.

We then went to the Rochford Winery and sampled 3 wines. We were taken through the steps to wine tasting including the slurp which is wonderfully funny watching a room full of people slupring - however didn't see much spitting, thankfully. We also had lunch, with a glass of wine of our choice, at this winery which was surprisingly really good food.

We staggered to our 3rd winery, St Huberts, where we sat out in the garden sampling 3 pretty nice wines. Finally we went to Yearing Station which has a fantastic new restaurant in the gardens. We sampled 3 wines and 1 Port. The Port stole the show and we all bought a bottle. Infact we all came away with a few bottles and a vastly greater knowledge and appreaciation of wine - and not at all drunk - honest.

We met Jemma and Pauline, Michaels friends, for dinner in a Vietnamese restaurant near Michales which was really good, wolfing down all the food on the table. We headed home and had a wee port before bed - very civilised.
