21st - 26th Jan - Ko Samet
We ventured out of the heat of Bangkok to the heat of Ko Samet, at least here we have beaches and the sea breeze. The boat across was pretty chaotic, no ramps or safety it's a wonder nobody fell in with their luggage.
The island looked really nice, clear blue water and white sandy beaches. There are no taxis or public transport on the island but locals, in pick up trucks, will take you to where every you want, at a price. Our hotel was a mile from the dock and main town, so we were in a quiet spot.
Although there was a beach it was too small to really lie on it so we sat by the pool most of the time, developing our tans - all this travelling isn't just fun it's hard work too and we need a rest!
The main town was busy and we're glad we're staying away from it in a quiet spot. At night however it looked really cute with mats, tables, Thai triangular pillows for chairs and candles, on the beach, infront of the resturants. Looked real cute didn't look real comfortable - we stayed in nice easy chairs for dinner. Most people were using two cushions to give them support and constantly changing their positions.
Talking to some people there's really none of the unspoilt Thailand beaches left - pity cos some of it must one have been beautiful.
It was actually really nice to get away from it all, have a holiday do nothing for a few days - ha ha ha.
